Jaxson Kirkland, Washington's sixth-year senior left tackle, will miss the Huskies' season opener against Kent State as a condition of his waiver approval from the NCAA, coach Kalen DeBoer said Saturday. Kirkland, a four-year starter, initially declared for the 2022 NFL Draft but withdrew upon discovering his injured right ankle would require surgery. The NCAA eventually approved his appeal to return to college for a sixth year — he has eligibility due to the 2020 pandemic pause — but on the condition that he sit out one game.
